Students at Parkwood Elementary made their mark on International Dot Day donning polka dot outfits and dotted stickers.
Dot Day is inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ book “The Dot,” which tells the story of an art teacher who encourages a young girl who believes she cannot draw. Starting with a small dot on a piece of paper she unlocks her creative potential and goes on a journey of self-discovery and creativity, in which she inspires others.
Art teacher Janel MacLean celebrated with students today during class by having them create their own artwork at one of five different stations.
Constitution Day commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, by the delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. Library and technology specialist Dawn Kasper-Bamberger discussed the Constitution with classes at Parkwood Elementary this week.
Members of the Spongey Books from Parkwood Elementary raised their arms in celebration when the final points totals were posted and they realized they won this year’s district-wide Mark Twain Book Battle. They narrowly defeated two teams from Rose Acres that tied for second place and it took three tie-breaker questions to determine the final standings. Another team from Parkwood finished in fourth.
