Kindergarten students in Ms. Tiffany Laughlin's class at Bridgeway Elementary listened to several published authors on Monday afternoon read their own story via Zoom and had the opportunity to ask questions after listening to each one. The authors were all first graders in Ms. Mallory Hamilton's Villemade first grade class at Parkwood Elementary.
"My class shared the books they wrote that all had a book cover and title and included a beginning, middle and end," Hamilton said. "They did their own illustrations and learned about how real authors share their work with others."
Parkwood Elementary School’s annual Panther Paws to Lend a Helping Hand Collection was its largest ever, helping 58 families. Staff signed up to purchase gifts and more than $300 was donated to the program. Staff members also raised $380 by giving $20 to wear jeans for the entire month and second grade teacher Greg Stoltz gave his winnings from the school’s The Biggest Loser competition to the fund.
In-person and Villemade students at Parkwood Elementary recently completed a collaborative mural that was installed near the front lobby of the school. Students can interact with it and have their picture taken.

More K-2 students who selected in-person instruction this fall returned to school today across the district. We visited Drummond, Parkwood and Remington Traditional to see what students and staff members are doing in the classroom.
