School district watching finances in wake of COVID-19 revenue losses, expenses
The Pattonville School District’s tax rate for homeowners will remain unchanged from the previous year after the board of education voted on Sept. 25 to approve proposed tax rates for the 2020-2021 school year. The residential rate will continue to be lower than the rates for agricultural, commercial and personal property, as promised to voters when they approved the Proposition P tax rate increase in 2013. At the time of the election, the district promised to limit the residential tax rate increase for as many years as possible. Proposition P allowed the district to levy up to 99 cents, but the district has kept its commitment, limiting the increase to 35 cents per $100 of assessed valuation for homeowners for the last seven years.
Rose Acres Elementary School has been named a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Rose Acres was one of only seven schools in the state of Missouri to receive this honor and the only elementary school in St. Louis County. The National Blue Ribbon Schools program recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Rose Acres and the other recognized Missouri schools all met the criteria for Exemplary High Performing Schools, which means they are among their state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
Some K-2 students who selected in-person instruction this fall returned to school today across the district. We visited Bridgeway, Rose Acres and Willow Brook to see what students and staff members are doing in the classroom. Tomorrow, we will visit Drummond, Parkwood and Remington when students with last names L-Z have their first day of in-person school.
